The Unlikely Journey Behind 'Reina Reborn': From Suburban Dad to Adult Film Director

What does it take to go from a married suburban dad with zero filmmaking experience to directing a 15-day, music-driven adult film with climate-change ambitions? For Karim Z, it was a wild ride that started with a COVID-era obsession and ended with 'Reina Reborn,' a project that defied all odds. ### The Spark: A Drinking Game and a Crazy Idea It all began with a scene from 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.' Karim, stuck at home during the pandemic, started riffing on the idea of turning that drinking sequence into something more. But he had no background in film or adult entertainment. In fact, he was a married dad who had just lost his crypto gains, faced a massive tax bill, and was back to office work he hated. "I had all this money. I had all this time, and I did nothing with it except just piss it away," he recalls. Once he rebuilt some capital, the idea became impossible to ignore. ### The Journey: From 10% Chance to Reality Karim describes the project as "a manic, crazy idea." He had to negotiate with his wife, abandon a plan to shoot in Brazil, and face countless rejections. But a chance connection with Michael Vegas and Siouxsie Q turned into the core production team. Together, they cast Valentina Nappi and Nicole Kitt as the female leads, built 14 original songs with Lucas Hickory, and shot 11 hardcore scenes over roughly 15 days. Karim learned to direct in real time, and after a post-production depressive crash, he navigated multiple edits. ### The Mission: More Than Just Profit Profitability was never the sole purpose. Karim wanted to use the scale and spectacle of adult entertainment to draw attention to climate change. "I wanted to make the greatest adult film," he says. "It doesn't seem like anything else is working, so why don't we try something else?" The film, now streaming on RebornCinema.com, is available in its original form and a shorter, plot-focused cut. Karim is also considering a soft-core version and hopes award-season recognition will bring more viewers. ### The Takeaway: Lessons from an Unlikely Filmmaker Karim's story is a reminder that sometimes the craziest ideas are the ones worth pursuing. He started with only a 10 percent chance of success, but he went for it anyway. And while the film may not have been a commercial blockbuster, it's a testament to what happens when you combine passion, persistence, and a willingness to learn on the fly. > "I had all this money. I had all this time, and I did nothing with it except just piss it away." – Karim Z So, what's the lesson for the rest of us? Maybe it's that you don't need to be an expert to start something bold. You just need an idea and the guts to see it through.
