Marica Hase reflects on 26 years in the spotlight, from a shy student to a groundbreaking international star. She opens up about her career, cancer battles, and life off-camera in a new interview.
### From Shy Student to International Star
Marica Hase didn't plan on a life in front of the camera. In a new interview with Daily Sport UK, she opens up about how it all began โ and how a fashion magazine cover right after graduation changed everything. "At the time, I was very shy, but I felt much more comfortable in front of the camera than I did away from it," she says. "So I decided, 'No matter what, I want to live my life in front of the camera.' And now, I've ended up working as an international."
### Breaking Barriers in the U.S. Adult Industry
Now 26 years into modeling and 17 years into her adult career, Hase reflects on becoming one of the first Japanese performers to make it big in America. She's won industry awards, appeared at live events, done voice work, and earned Hall of Fame recognition. But her path wasn't easy. She started in Japanese television and film, then won the SOD Create Cinderella Audition, which launched her adult career. Later, she became an exclusive performer for EROTICA before going global.
### A Survivor's Strength
Hase's story isn't just about career milestones. In 2019, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She took a break for treatment, including a double mastectomy and lymph node removal in 2022. Then, in early 2025, she faced a second diagnosis โ cervical cancer. She beat it and returned to filming. "I'm a two time cancer survivor, a longtime pornstar, and the first and only Japanese Penthouse Pet in the USA," she says. That's a legacy few can match.
### Life Beyond the Camera
When she's not working, Hase is a passionate wrestling fan โ she even took lessons. She loves Japanese food and "big juicy American food." She's also an advocate for cancer awareness and animal rescue. And her daily vlogs featuring Buusan, her pig plush, have become a fan favorite. "I'm just living my life," she says. "And I'm grateful for every moment."

At 26 years in, Hase isn't slowing down. She continues to film, make appearances, and connect with fans. Her advice? "Find what makes you comfortable and go for it. For me, it was the camera."
